Questions, answered

Why don't these numbers match my Wrapped?

They answer different questions. The three periods here are Spotify's own — roughly the last four weeks, roughly the last six months, and All time, which is several years of listening rather than everything you have ever played — and none of them lines up with the year Wrapped counts. Spotify also rebuilds these rankings only about once a day, so a week spent on one record can take a while to show.

Why are there no play counts or minutes listened?

Spotify publishes the order of your top artists and tracks but not the play counts behind it, so there is no tally here to show you the working for. The one number that does appear — the 0–100 popularity on an artist, track or album — is Spotify's measure of everyone's listening, not yours.

Why does my history stop at 50 plays?

That is the whole of what Spotify will hand back for a listening history: your last 50 plays, newest first. It is their ceiling rather than a setting here, which is also why that page has no period switcher — there is only ever the one window.

How often does anything update?

Each answer has its own shelf life: half an hour for top lists, ten minutes for your saved library, a minute for your play history. After that it expires on its own and the next visit fetches it again. The slower limit is upstream — Spotify recomputes the top rankings about once a day, so half an hour is already fresher than the data itself.

Is Melodystats free?

Yes — completely free. If it makes you smile, you can support the project on Patreon.

Do you store my Spotify data?

No database, and nothing about you is written to disk. What Spotify returns is held in the server's memory for a few minutes so the next page loads fast, then expires on its own. Your login stays in an encrypted cookie in your own browser, and logging out destroys it.

What does Melodystats access?

Your top artists and tracks, recently played history, saved library, the artists you follow and profile basics. It only ever reads — it holds no permission that could change anything in your Spotify account. It cannot control playback on your devices, it cannot add to or remove from your Liked Songs, and it cannot create or edit a playlist.

How do I disconnect Melodystats?

Log out on your profile page, and revoke access anytime at spotify.com/account/apps.

Is Melodystats affiliated with Spotify?

No. Melodystats is an independent project. All music data and artwork are provided by Spotify.

Melodystats works without tracking you. We would like to use Google Analytics to count visits and see which features get used — nothing loads until you say yes, and you can change your mind any time. Read the Privacy Policy
