Terms and Conditions

These Terms are an agreement between you and PE Ishtvan Komonii, a sole proprietor (фізична особа-підприємець) registered in Ukraine for computer programming and related activities, of Petliury Street 4, apt. 210, Lviv 79054, Ukraine, contact@melodystats.me. In this document “Melodystats”, “we” and “us” mean that person and the site at melodystats.me.

They apply from the moment you use the site. If you do not accept them, do not use it — and if you have already connected Spotify, revoke the grant at spotify.com/account/apps.

Melodystats reads your Spotify listening data and draws statistics and readings from it: top artists and tracks, genres, decades, a play history, an obscurity score, a listening personality, a festival poster, an iceberg, a colour palette taken from your album art. Each feature can be exported as a file and shared as an image.

It also writes to your Spotify account, in three narrow ways. You should know all three before you connect it, and this clause makes the limits contractual rather than merely internal:

• Playback. Play, pause, next and previous, on a device you already have open, and only when you press a transport control.
• Liking a track. The heart on a track row saves or removes exactly that track from your Liked Songs. There is no bulk operation and nothing else in your library is touched.
• Creating a playlist. The playlist builder creates a new private playlist and adds the tracks you kept while swiping. It never edits, reorders or deletes a playlist that already existed.

Melodystats never writes to your Spotify profile. The full list of what it can read is in the Privacy Policy.

Melodystats has no accounts and no passwords. You sign in by authorising it from your Spotify account, and that authorisation is what identifies you. There is no registration form, and nothing here ever asks you to type a personal detail — so there is nothing for you to keep accurate and no credential of ours for you to keep secret.

What matters instead is the security of your Spotify account and of the device where you stay signed in. Both are yours to look after.

You can end it whenever you like. Log out on your profile page clears the session cookie; spotify.com/account/apps revokes the grant entirely, and from that moment Melodystats can read nothing.

You need a Spotify account, and Spotify sets its own minimum age for your country.

If the GDPR applies to you, you also need to be old enough to agree to an online service on your own account: 16, unless your country has lowered it — it may go no lower than 13. Below that age a parent or guardian has to agree for you.

Do not use Melodystats on someone else’s Spotify account without their permission.

Nothing. There is no paid tier, no trial, no card, and no payment is taken on this site. Support through Patreon is voluntary, goes through Patreon under Patreon’s own terms, and buys no feature that anyone else does not have.

Melodystats is supplied free of charge. That changes what you can reasonably expect of it — see No warranty — but it does not remove the rights consumer law gives you, and it does not put the service outside consumer law: a digital service supplied in exchange for personal data is covered all the same.

• Use Melodystats lawfully, and in a way that does not break Spotify’s own terms.
• Do not try to reach another person’s data, and do not use anyone else’s Spotify grant.
• Do not automate it — no scraping, no bulk requests, nothing that would put the site’s Spotify access at risk of rate limits or revocation.
• Do not use Spotify content obtained through this site to train a machine-learning or AI model. Spotify prohibits it, and so do we.
• Do not attempt to break, overload or bypass the site’s security.

You may not decompile or disassemble the site’s software — except where the law gives you that right regardless, which this clause does not attempt to override. Art. 6 of Directive 2009/24/EC on the legal protection of computer programs is the case in point.

Your Spotify data is yours. It is not ours, and nothing in this agreement claims it.

Everything Melodystats produces from it for you — a CSV, an XLSX or a JSON export, a share image — is yours to keep, publish, post and reuse, including commercially. There is no “personal, non-commercial” restriction on your own readings. The point of the feature is that they travel.

Two things travel with limits that are not ours to lift:

• album artwork, artist images and track metadata belong to Spotify and its licensors, and stay subject to Spotify’s terms wherever an exported image happens to include them;
• the Melodystats wordmark on a share card is there to say where the picture came from, which is the one job it has.

The site’s code, layout, design system, wording and graphics are ours. You get a personal, non-exclusive, revocable licence to use the site as it is meant to be used — not a licence to copy the site itself, resell it, or run a competing service from it.

“Melodystats”, the wordmark and the logo mark are ours. Do not use them as your own, and do not use them in a way that suggests we endorse something we do not.

This section covers the site. It does not cover your readings — see Your data — and it does not cover Spotify’s content, which is Spotify’s.

Melodystats is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed or sponsored by Spotify. Spotify and the Spotify logo are trademarks of Spotify AB.

Because Melodystats is built on Spotify’s developer platform, the following are part of this agreement:

• Your use of Spotify through Melodystats is also governed by your own agreement with Spotify. Where the two differ about your Spotify account, Spotify’s terms govern it.
• Spotify AB is a third-party beneficiary of these Terms and may enforce them against you directly.
• Spotify gives no warranty about Melodystats, has no liability to you in connection with it, and provides no support for it. Melodystats is ours, and what goes wrong with it is ours to answer for.
• Spotify content — recordings, artwork, metadata — is licensed by Spotify. Do not download, copy, redistribute or commercially exploit it beyond what the site itself does for you, and do not use it to train any machine-learning or AI model.
• If you revoke access at spotify.com/account/apps, Melodystats stops reading your Spotify data immediately.

Melodystats is supplied “as is” and “as available”.

• The readings are computed from what Spotify’s API returns at the moment you look. Spotify’s own data can be incomplete, delayed, or simply different from what you remember, and endpoints Melodystats once used have been retired by Spotify and are gone.
• Nothing here is a definitive record of your listening. It is a reading, not an audit.
• There is no promise that the site is available, uninterrupted or free of errors. It is one person’s free project and it can go down.

To the extent the law allows, implied warranties and conditions are excluded. What the law does not allow to be excluded is not excluded. If you are a consumer, your statutory rights are unaffected by this section — including the conformity rights Directive (EU) 2019/770 gives you for a digital service supplied in exchange for personal data, and the mandatory protections of the Law of Ukraine “On Protection of Consumer Rights”.

Nothing in these Terms limits or excludes liability for: death or personal injury caused by negligence; fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; intentional breach or gross negligence; or anything else that cannot lawfully be limited under the law of the country where you live. Art. 614(3) of the Civil Code of Ukraine makes an agreement excluding liability for an intentional breach void, and this clause does not attempt one.

Subject to that, and because the service is free: we are not liable for indirect or consequential loss, for loss of profit or business, for loss of data you held another copy of, or for loss caused by Spotify’s service rather than ours. Where liability can lawfully be capped, our total liability to you for everything arising out of these Terms is limited to EUR 100.

If you are a consumer, this section is read subject to the mandatory rules of your own country of residence, and nothing in it takes away a right consumer law gives you.

You can end it at any moment, for any reason, with no notice: log out, and revoke at spotify.com/account/apps. Nothing of yours is held back — there is no database — and the cached copies expire on their own within the times set out in the Privacy Policy.

We can suspend or end your access only on one of these grounds:

• you are in breach of these Terms;
• you are using the site unlawfully;
• you are abusing Spotify’s API through it, or putting our API access at risk;
• a security incident makes suspension necessary.

Where it is practicable we will say so first and give you a chance to put it right. In a serious case suspension can be immediate, and the explanation follows it. Either way you can contest it at contact@melodystats.me, and you will get an answer.

We may also stop running Melodystats altogether. It is a free project and it may one day end; if it does, we will say so on the site rather than simply going dark.

Sections that survive the end of this agreement: Your data, Our software, design and marks, Spotify, No warranty, Liability, and Governing law and disputes.

These Terms change only for a reason, and the reasons are: a change in the law, a change in Spotify’s developer terms or API, or a change in what the site offers.

• A correction that changes neither your rights nor your obligations — a typo, a clearer sentence — takes effect when it is posted.
• A material change is announced on the site at least 14 days before it takes effect. Continuing to use Melodystats is not treated as acceptance of a material change. If you do not accept one, stop using the site and revoke the grant — that is a complete answer, and nothing is owed in either direction.

Every version carries the date at the top of this page. There is only one date.

These Terms are governed by the law of Ukraine, and the courts of Ukraine have jurisdiction over them.

If you are a consumer resident in the EEA or the United Kingdom, that choice takes nothing away from you. You keep the mandatory protections of the law of your own country of residence, you may bring proceedings in the courts of the place where you live, and you may be sued only there.

Talk to us first, if you can. Write to contact@melodystats.me. Most things turn out to be a misunderstanding, and 30 days is usually more than enough to settle one.

Out of court. The European Commission’s Online Dispute Resolution platform was shut down on 20 July 2025, so there is no EU-wide portal to point you at. A consumer in the EEA can approach the consumer-dispute body or consumer authority in their own country — the European Consumer Centre there will say which one — and a consumer in Ukraine can approach the State Service of Ukraine for Food Safety and Consumer Protection. We are not currently signed up to a particular ADR body. None of this affects your right to go to court.

Language. These Terms are written in English and the English text is the authoritative version. Any translation is provided for convenience only.
